The fundamental task of the Croatian History Museum is to preserve and communicate the national historical heritage. The museums has several collections.
Its divided in several collections among other things an archaeology collection containing a objects generally dating to the period spanning the fourteenth to nineteenth centuries. They illustrate everyday life in the late Middle Ages.
A big selection of documentary contains, a diverse collection of photographs, postcards and newspapers, which chronologically encompasses the period from the sixteenth century to the onset of the Second World War. An other section contains materials that illustrate various phenomena, events, ideas, people and the diverse aspects of their public and private lives in Croatia from the beginning of the twentieth century to the present.
The Collection contains also maps, religious artefacts, arms and armoury, plaques, flags... but also paintings, drawings, sculpture, most are works by renowned Croatian painters who directly participated in the Second World War or supported the antifascist resistance movement in other ways.
